Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Nowhere near in the class of, these foolish things, but it's still okay. Bryan Ferry is always interesting in his choice of material and, let's stick together, is no different. The cover of the Beatles, it's only love, is alright, but at least he chose a rarely covered, if at all, Lennon-Mccartney number. The title track is great, but the most intriguing thing about this 'covers' album, is that Ferry covers himself, well Roxy Music anyway, to mixed results. Enjoyable though.
Remember when Brian Ferry rocked? This album is one of my favorites of his solo records.
