Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.6/100, a mean average of 79.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.4.

Hah, I might have been a bit too quick to declare Bitter Tea as my favourite FF album. I decided to give this one another listen afterwards, and now I'm not sure anymore.. While I think BT has the best songs by the band, this album flows incredibly from start to finish, and it's just ridiculously fun to listen to. The final stretch of songs (especially the duo Tropical Ice-Land - Rub-Alcohol Blues) in particular makes this album so great for me.
A cross between a deconstructed Rolling Stones, the ramshackle anarchy of The Holy Modal Rounders, the twisted Delta blues of the Magic Band and the surreal cabaret of Frank Zappa, The Fiery Furnaces create a multi-faceted style that has few precedents. The lead vocals of Eleonor Friedberger are from the Janis Joplin/Patti Smith shaman-preacher tradition. This album is bursting with chaotic creativity and soars to heights that the overrated White Stripes (whose aesthetic follows a similar trajectory) could only aspire to.
