Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.1/100, a mean average of 81.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

This record is extremely beautiful at times and it is full of moments where you just sit back in awe of the genius that is in front of you. The mastery of music that is on display on several tracks on this record is just fantastic. They create a brilliant atmosphere that draws the listener in and allows us to be able to get lost so easily in the music. This makes what is quite a long record fly by as it all feels so cohesive and in unison. A few tracks can get a bit repetitive though, and they do drag on for far too long than they need to. Overall, a great record to stick on and just get lost in with a lot of genius songs and it is packed full of experimentation.
So noisy and so beautiful. This rich, full sound of this album makes it so that I don't have to think any thoughts at all. It drowns all that out.
A masterful and excellent amalgam of Aphex Twin and Slowdive. I was expecting this to be more shoegaze-y, but the electronics are wonderful.
This album is all over the goddamn place, but like, in a good way.
This album sounds like my computer is breaking. I kinda, love it?
Melodic indie and experimental breakbeat.
My Bloody Valentine and Aphex Twin.
They very much love to repeat ad infinitum.
Catchy and simple melodies against complex electronic processing. Nice combo!
But the album is way too long.
Woah, pretty awesome album! A few of the songs where it's just 2 chords over and over again it can be exhausting but the atmospheres and production on this is freaking great especially for 2003. And the final few songs are crazy good. I don't think it needed to be as long as it is. But I'm not a shoegaze fan so I get that the 2 chords over and over again for 10 minutes is standard for the genre, and it's one of the better shoegaze albums I've heard for sure.
The last 3 songs tho
What an unknown masterpiece, like a pearl in a deep ocean of music!
I am very happy, that I discovered this LP.
@hitch (and everyone else that likes this album) Check out Katie Dey. She's doing some crazy glitch-gaze type stuff
