Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 73.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.1.

Majestic and symphonic, the latest progressive rock LP by Kansas is a melodic extravaganza filled with emotional lyrics, well-developed instrumental parts and surprising variation. The album sounds true to 70s progressive, while still being anchored in modern rock music, proving that the seasoned band is still as relevant as ever. The symphonic elements are mixed with heavier percussion and guitar moments, giving some of the tracks a harder edge. There are even some noticeable psychedelic influences here and there, which makes this album an interesting mix of nostalgic genres within rock music.
'Memories Down The Line' is the biggest standout of the LP; it's majestic, emotional and catchy. 'Never' is another beautiful song. There is no bad track on the album, even if 'Propulsion I' feels somewhat redundant.
Excellent follow up to The Prelude Implicit. Yet another album that shows Kansas as brilliant and vital as in the late 70's . If you love Leftoverture and Point of Know Return, you will love Prelude and now Absence. Like Prelude, I think that had this album been released directly after the great 2 albums it would be considered as highly as them . Listen and enjoy. This is as good as American Prog gets!
