Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.6/100, a mean average of 69.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

This harkens the Boys to an older time where raw rapping and hip-hop was beloved by all. Unfortunately, this was not the case when this album was released, so public appeal was not terribly fantastic as it wasn't witty for the most part as fans of the group expected from them. That being said, this is strong stuff. They really pulled out the rhyming punches here, none stronger than in Ch-Check It Out, which is way up there amongst their best tracks. Letter to NYC is also a poignant and powerful tune after the tragedy on 9/11, and the album art featuring both towers standing is a further message of empowerment and hope that is done quite well and tastefully.

Key Cuts: Ch-Check It Out, Triple trouble, Right Right Now Now

Not their best by a hundred stretches, but this album gets a lot more hate than is due. I'm a big fan of a lot of the tracks. Sure, they never made another License to Ill or Paul's Boutique, but I'd argue that this is their third best.

Sorry boys, but your age showed on this one. Very disappointing considering all that good stuff that came before.

I guess their style doesn't work well with aging.

This is the Beasties doing a mostly straightforward version of hip hop without many bells and whistles. I kinda miss those bells and whistles but it's still a good album.
