The jazz/funk fusion on this record is absolutely brilliant. A classic just for Chameleon alone. Sly is also fantasic and not a bad moment throughout. My favorite Hancock album.

One of the greatest jazz albums of the seventies. Head hunters, is Herbie Hancock's, bitch's brew. A funky masterpiece. More cohesive than Mahavishnu orchestra and Weather report, although those are two great bands, it's just this holds together better as a whole. Herbie Hancock, one of the great keyboard players ever.

Honestly, it kind of falls flat for me. The rhythms throughout the songs seem rigid, unlike the admittedly few Davis fusion albums I've heard. There isn't enough room for variance, it wallows, mellows and never explodes or climaxes, besides a little bit on Chameleon. Watermelon Man is on the edge of fun, a silly track that isn't cohesive enough to shine. I can see the album's importance, and it's likeable, but it's boring. I'll listen some more and try to let the funky magic take over for the sake of its legacy.

This is an album that is so easy to get into because you can appreciate the musicianship but it's nothing that gets lost on you. Herbie Hancock is a genius for that. Very nice flow through this album and the underrated Harvey Mason on drums kills it.

Very important fusion record!

Fantastic album. Sounds like nothing I have ever heard before. Second only to "Time Out" as far as Jazz albums go. "Chameleon" is the highlight track.
