Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.9/100, a mean average of 65.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.8.

Nice sumation from RockyRaccoon. I didn't get Guided By Voices until I listened to the whole album. Individual songs (OK), album as a whole (way better). Worth the effort.

This is one of those albums that requires you to listen to the whole album to really appreciate it. Guided By Voices have a slightly odd sound to them, or perhaps they just write slightly odd songs, I’m not sure. The closest thing I think I can compare them to is Eels, whom I love. They’re a bit different than Eels in that they’re a little less comprehensive at times, but it’s similar. The songs individually are pretty good, but it’s the album together as a whole that you have to listen to. It’s a 21 track album so, as you can imagine, there are a lot of one-minute songs that make sense in context, but not on their own. It’s a pretty good album though, worth checking out.
