Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 70.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

Basically the essential compilation and best starting point for getting into Steve Miller's pre-Joker days, i.e. before he was cranking out hit after hit in the mid/late '70s and early '80s. Leans more into psychedelic pop and blues than the more streamlined approach on the popular stuff, so be prepared. But it's well worth diving into with some of his all-time best tracks here—Going to the Country, Journey from Eden, Space Cowboy, Living in the U.S.A., you name it. His pre-Joker albums are sometimes a bit up-and-down, but this really puts almost all of the essential stuff in one easy place. Tracks from that era not included on this album that I'd also say are worth seeking out: Song for Our Ancestors, Quicksilver Girl, Gangster of Love, Brave New World, Good Morning, Tokin's, Jackson-Kent Blues, and Nothing Lasts.

His sixties albums are of very high quality and a lot of songs you find on this on. Very energetic and intelligent songs. After 25 years I still love Kow Kow, Going to the Country and some more. Childeren of the Future, Your Saving Grace and Brave New World are my personal favourite albums. Sailor, Number 5 and The Joker I only like for some songs.
