Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Very solid EP, and pretty different sounding than their debut LP Repeater. I would say compared to Repeater this is a bit more creative, but the vocals are more in your face and overall Repeater is more elegant. I really like both Minor Threat, Rites of Spring and early Fugazi, though I have a hard time swallowing their later, more *experimental* stuff.
Some great songs and some to skip... its a fine EP but their first LP may be a better introduction to the group.
