Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.7.

This guy could have used lo fi aesthetics in a smarter way instead of this extreme statement.
There's some good music with peculiar atmospheres.
But this all sounds like an SM58 pointing towards an average live sound monitor. And it just flattens the whole record.
The compositions deserved a better musician to execute them.
Best Tracks: Elli, I Dream In Neon, Love Is The Devil, Au Revoir Mon Visage
Experimental music can be incredibly interesting to listen to. Recorded music has been changing so much over such a long period of time that hearing someone explore new areas of music, new sounds and new structures, can be really intriguing, and sometimes that music can be groundbreaking, or at the very least, just enjoyable music. However, just like with any experiment, sometimes it just doesn’t work too well. In this case, with Dirty Beaches, the moniker of electronic musician Alex Hungtai, it’s a miss.
This album is a double album, which is certainly ambitious of Hungtai. The first half, “Drifters", is interesting, consisting mostly of lo-fi-sounding recordings of electronic tracks and vocals that sound like they’re being sung through a filter. There’s some good moments there too, “ELLI" is a cool piece, and the music behind “I Dream In Neon" is kind of cool too. Other than that, the music is just ok. The second half of the album, “Love Is The Devil", is mostly uninteresting. It’s all instrumental guitar and electronic music, with a relatively lo-fi recording to it. Is this album intriguing? Sure, it has that going for it. But unfortunately, the experiment of this album, for me, didn’t work.
