Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 18% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.1/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

dark, yet very beautiful
Wiesenfeld sounds like he's battling a sea of troubles yet he remains strong and focused here.
A good record with its moments of greatness (Miasma Sky, Ossuary, Phaedra).
I LOVE THIS SOUND
FRESH
I've listened to this album a couple of times by now. It's definitely one of the stronger efforts from this year's album outputs. Baths create a thick fog of dark electronic and experimental sounds. I especially love the track Earth Death, it has a really dark midnight vibe to it.
The first three songs are some of the best of 2013, the rest is sadly quite forgettable after such a great start.
“Obsidian", is an example of how interesting and good experimental music can be. The man behind the moniker of Baths is Will Wiesenfeld, and this is his second album. This album, as the cover would suggest, can get dark. Perhaps the best example of that is the Nine-Inch-Nails-sounding “Earth Death", in which Wiesenfeld keeps repeating “Come kill me/I see/So alone". It’s very interesting music, though at times, it can get a little slow, but generally speaking, this is a really cool album, definitely worth checking out.
I kind of feel about this album the way I felt about Amok, which is that it is more style over substance. It's very relaxed with a great attention to detail, but the songwriting doesn't always capture me. Still, I think some songs are great and most all of the songs have great sounds and textures.
