Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.1/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.0.

An incredible album. I always thought Cage the Elephant were simply a normal indie/pop band with songs like ‘cigarette daydream’ and ‘come a little closer’ (although they are incredible songs). However listening to Melophobia changed that completely. A captivating listen from gun to tape. Not a single bad track. My personal favourite was Telescope!

There are some truly phenomenal songs on this album, my favourites being Take It Or Leave It and Cigarette Daydreams. Both of these songs are high energy and very catchy making them get stuck in my head for days. Every song follows in this pattern and I really do struggle to find a weak track on this album. The vocal is unique and one of my favourite performances I have heard for a while as it is so diverse and enjoyable. Melodically, this is far superior to what they have ever done before and they took a risk with making this album a little more laid back but it works brilliantly. Overall, an energetic album that demonstrates the artists quality and is a non stop blast right from the first few seconds.

I was really taken aback by this album. I always thought of Cage the Elephant as a band that used to be cool before making soft pop-rock hits. But I had never really listened to them, and this actually turned out to be a very musically interesting album. Sure it has Come A Little Closer and Cigarrette Daydreams which are both a little poppy, but they are both excellent songs. And then there are songs like It's Just Forever and my personal favorite on the album Teeth, that are super interesting. I here industrial and jazz influences that I would never have expected.

As the title may suggest, Cage leaves the fuzz guitar and rocking tones of earlier albums behind, and begin to mellow out on this one. A lot of the songs are down right beautiful - the beginning half of of the record for example

Really nice album, unfortunately is overlooked. 4 & 7 are awful.

After the let down of their second album, which I struggle to listen to, this is a breath of fresh air. Melody over a punky racket any day. Definitely their best album up to this point, consistently good with Black Widow probably the relative low point....

I saw them open for the Foo Fighters and they were energetic... but terrible. Anyway, this is alright.

Pretty good album by Cage, and definitely their best album. One of the best albums to listen to at a party, as all of their songs are good on this album. This could be somewhat comparable to The Strokes "Is This It?"
