Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.3/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

Criminally under appreciated PJH album this one
This time the over arching theme focus' on America and more precisely the perceived social cleansing through demolition of ghettos and slums , it really is powerful stuff . Tip - get to understand the back ground to this album and you will appreciate it more
"The Wheel" is amongst Polly Jeans best tracks
They're gonna put a Walmart here
They're gonna put a Walmart here ...........
Has been a steady grower through the year. The first two thirds are excellent, but the latter few tracks are too inconsistent for me.
Quite a disappointment after the great "Let England Shake".
I like the music, but the lyrics are awful.
Best tracks: The Ministry of Defence, The Orange Monkey.
Worst track: Dollar Dollar.
This is by far the most bizzare listening experience I have ever had with PJ Harvey, or really any record. It's like a play with a gawd-awful, preachy-preening first act, a fairly decent but still somewhat moribund second and an absolutely incredible final third. This is a record that's going to take a lot of re-listens to truly unwind and try to make any sort of sense of, but it's not something that I think I can really stomach to keep listening in it's entirity. Huh.
Musically this album continues the musical theme of, let England shake, and lyrically focuses on America. As always with PJ Harvey, it's excellent. I wouldn't go as far to say it his her best, but it's another fine record from an artist who still has so much more to give. All the songs are superb. Another great PJ album.
I'm really upset with this record. Musically inconsistent, boring and ugly sounds.
Favorite track: The Community Of Hope
B+
In style it's like 'Let England Shake' part 2 however this time she casts her net further afield lyrically...'Let The World Shake' perhaps. Sadly (first listen) nothing here comes close to anything on the first side of the former album.
Solid, i suppose..From only my first listen there is not much song's that catch me right away..The Wheel and The Ministry of Defense are highlight's atm.
Very Pretty Generic :/
