Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.1/100, a mean average of 71.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.2.

A bit repetitive stylistically, but it works more than I would have expected an environmentalist electro pop album would. Not buying the hype that this is a really innovative album or anything, but it is worth a listen.
A good electropop record with environmetalist subtext unfortunately marred by political ineptitude like the horrible lead single "Drone Bomb Me" where she takes the form of an afghani girl pleading to be droned to death so she can join her dead family....... It isn't insightful, it's just orientalist.
most pleasant suprise in 2016, genuinely one weak year for music...
After a couple of record where Antony seemed to have lost his ispiration, he changed his name, his sex, and made the best 2016 record.
A stunning production by Oneohtrix and beautiful voice and caustic lyrics by Anohni.
A great protest album filled with beautiful & volcanic electronica. ANOHNI is angry at many things in the world and she manages to take that anger and create a wonderful piece of art that manages to be completely engaging.
One of the best albums of the year for sure, but it's also the year's most necessary and vital album to listen to from a trans artist that we just don't see enough of in the pop landscape of today.
She uses her art for good. And on top of that it's a great listen!

Proof that the day of artists producing difficult, boundary pushing albums is far from over, Hopelessness is a dazzling and thought-provoking piece of work. Leaving behind the previous baroque-rock stylings of before for a more contemporary, electro feel this is a brave and exciting step forward for ANOHNI.
For an album I really didn't have much expectation for, I thoroughly enjoyed this. From the vocals, to the catchy instrumentation and obviously the socially conscious lyrics, this album is a must listen to any fan of the synthpop genre.
A haunting, beautiful beast. This is a protest record alright and Anohni captivates track after track, with that gorgeous voice of hers. The instrumentation is lush, varied and compliments it nicely. One of the best of 2016.
