You know what Jupiter sure does bring a lot of jollity! Holst nails an amazing circus act of childlike wonder and imperious grandeur. The piece skips merrily from one section to the next, each its own instantly catchy masterstroke. It's the hymnal 'Thaxted' in the middle, however, that acts as the king pin, one of the most sonorous, most moving pieces of music I've ever heard. Holst reveals nature's most poetic beauty by making it 'Jupiter's centrepiece; total joy with total heart.
Difficult not to well up whenever I play this. You wonder why it isn't the UK's national anthem.
