Originally intended to be George Harrison's contribution to the Sgt. Pepper album(at least as far as George was concerned anyway), fortunately Harrison came up with Within you without you and helped make that record a masterpiece. Only a northern song, would have been a blot on Sgt. Pepper's landscape. It's not terrible, actually quite funny and ironic considering Northern songs was the name of John and Paul's song publishing company, but it certainly wasn't good enough for Pepper. You get the feeling that it ended up on the Yellow submarine soundtrack/album just to get it out the way, just to keep George happy. Still, as I said, it's not bad, just not great either.
