Hey so I know a lot of you are already aware of this beauty
(For those of you who haven't heard it, beautifully crafted dream pop with delicately layered light strings blended perfectly with layered/echo-y female vocals and occasional understated percussion. Somewhat reminiscent of Grouper, and to a lesser extent, Lisa Germano)
So for anyone who hasn't heard the above, I highly recommend.
And now for anyone who is aware of and enjoys the above (or for anyone really), I want to spread awareness about this.
O'Neil was able to produce "Where New Lights Shine" thanks to funds accumulated through a kickstarter campaign. The above album was originally a limited-edition CD-R mailed to some of her Kickstarter backers. "Unintended Side Effects" is a collection of "found sounds and early/alternate versions of music made during 2010-2013."
For an album that's basically a discard pile for "New Lights", it's really quite good. It hardly feels like a ramshackle collection of demos and abandoned songs; at times it almost feels on par with the proper album. I highly recommend both of the above to anyone. PM me if you need a dl link
btw, very very excited about this new year so far. A lot of great folk-ish singer songwriters records (Nadler, Kozelek, Byrne, O'Neil, Sansom, soon the awesome Brookings), a good load of great rap (Cilvia, Step Brothers, ScHoolboy, plus a host of fantastic mixtapes dlg will dig up for us as usual), the odd touching record I'd hoped nothing from (Wild Beasts), the share of awesome rec from lethal (Ricky Eat Acid), good news from old friends (Malkmus, GBV, Cherry)...
and all of this without the usual suspects!
2014 is going everywhere. You've got to enjoy living today. I can't recall a year I've been so excited by so many releases in such a short time (admittedly, this is the first time I've followed a year so consistently too, this explains that maybe. Still).

also, so this new Wild Beasts' album is great? the last one felt as dull as carboard
They showed a lot of promise on 'Two Dancers' so I'll probably check this new one out. 'Smother' is definitely one of the weakest albums I've heard from the 2010s, though (and it was hyped to the sky at time of release).
