I like this, but I much prefer New Day Rising.

And Damaged and Double Nickels On The Dime are both incredible, though I think I've loved anything put out by Minutemen and Black Flag pretty much.

I'm not really at all a fan of this album. I don't know why but something about the flow and production and definitely the vocals of it just annoy me. So much.

And I would say First Four Years (especially the nervous breakdown and jealous again eps) are way more my thing than Damaged. I guess I'm just more into that snotty and annoyed and brash punk style more than the more masculine and demented and strange style they started going into with Damaged.

As you probably know, this album consists entirely of first takes done in a timespan of 40 hours, and the production and mixing was done relatively cheap within the NEXT 48 hours. That probably accounts for the somewhat rough, gritty sound to the production and flow. To me that's a big chunk of the appeal but I can see why it would annoy some.

In terms of vocals, I obviously can't say anything really since that's completely subjective, but do you like Hart's vocals more (Pink Turns To Blue, Turn On The News) or Mould's (Something I Learned Today)?

One thing I'll say is that Grant Hart fucking makes this album for me. Not saying Bob Mould isn't talented, but all of my favorites are Hart's songs except for Whatever.

Also, Candy Apple Grey >>>>> New Day Rising. The guitar tone is CAG is pretty blah and too sugary, but the songs are much better (IMO) and the vocal mixing is infinitely superior (That is completely objective).

Listening to this always makes me feel like a counter-culture badass. It did at 15, and it does today.

A milestone band, and a very good album.
