I love this I love this I love this soooo much right now. This morning I put it on while getting ready for work and it hit the good spot perfectly. I just love the poppy reggae feel to it and the songwriting. And the horns. And the Johnny and Many Rivers and the title ttack and you can get it and rivers of babylon etc etc it's awesome!!!
Keep in mind I have never really gotten into reggae. I liked the heart of the congoes ad I like some Marley especially LIVE! but overall I don't love them and I definitely would consider this album to be my fave reggae album I've heard. It's my gateway drug I guess.
Anyway, I am especially interested in why you skinny and you nowaxjim recommend next but also others too. Drakonium I respect your opinion too. Hell I respect what most all of you may recommend. _________________ -Ryan

I would start with those two. Not entirely sure why, but Two Sevens Clash tends to appeal to people who don't necessarily like reggae. It is one of my favourite albums though.
I see all those as being really accessible, but each showcases a different aspect of the genre (Dr. Alimantado toasts - basically proto-rapping; Gregory Isaacs deals in lovers' rock; Fever is simply one of the finest examples of early dancehall).
These aren't all necessarily similar to The Harder They Come, but they're albums I'd recommend to anybody who showed any interest in reggae. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
Another poppy number, from Norman this time, sung by girls which is pretty unusual in reggae, as far as I'm concerned. It also contains the eponymous song, which is pretty much one of the best songs ever recorded.
Apparently this is supposed to be a gateway reggae record for dadrockers. Not that you're a dadrocker, but you seem closer to classic rock than to reggae, so this should work just fine. Also a Brandon favorite, that says it all.
Much more recent and by a girl as well. Not that I know shit about recent reggae, but NoWaxJim happened to listen to that once and I thought "Why not?", and in fact is as great as any classic roots album IMO.
