ok so I enjoyed this way more than I thought I was going to. First track left me skeptical, as I tend to be whenever metal attempts to incorporate classical elements, (I find the majority of even symphonic metal to be sloppy at best), but after the somewhat unremarkable intro, I found myself strangely entranced by those metallic pseudo-hymns, and when it hit that center piece and the album actually started to sound like a metal album, that's when everything came together, and that whole second half was ace. Not too many overblown synths, and a nice synthesis overall of doom metal, post-metal, (etc) with a symphonic touch that felt refreshingly not cheesy (cough *Windir* cough) ๐

I have, actually! But it was nice to revisit a lot of the sounds going on here. A bit tense at times, but still very interesting. I wish I had better words to give for it at the moment, but I didnโt re-listen to this recently but simply forgot to post up a sort of micro-review. Maybe I should give it another listen in the near future and tell you a more concise gathering of thoughts regarding it?
Sorry this took so long - good album, I really liked it. Very Dream Theater-like (JMan might like this?). The guitar-work was fantastic (especially on "Vision 6ix") and it came together to make a cohesive, solid album, good stuff.

James Murphy is the standout piece of this from what I can tell on my first listen to this 1993 death metal record as I keep thinking the guitar bits is the most interesting things going on and while I understand Jason Carman also had a key role I think heโs playing second foot to Murphy here. Moving on from that I will say that I think the record is pretty solid and while I donโt love it I think itโs most certainly worth hearing. I suppose I feel like the vocals and percussion are particularly vanilla for death metal on here, but it was made in 1993 when death metal was just getting out of its infancy so I canโt really slight it against Disincarnate that I prefer how death metal evolved only a few years later.
I'll give you something fairly recent that might go under your radar, glad you digged the Vanden Plas record though which was a grower for me for sure.
