Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 77.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.4.

Okay, I need to preface this by saying I'm a MASSIVE fan of No Name, and I don't feel like going back and rewriting my whole comment to try to NOT draw an absolutely necessary comparison to that album just for the sake of integrity or whatever. No album exists in a vacuum and all that good stuff. Therefore:

After 2024's No Name, a definitive triumph for a man who's already accomplished everything, Frozen Charlotte serves as a reminder that Jack White is still both master and mortal. No Name felt BIG, it was a TRUE return to form, and it was FULL of big-time rock-and-roll riffs that were missing in action for the better part of a decade in favor of experimentation (Entering Heaven Alive, Boarding House Reach) and stepping back from the spotlight a bit with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

But what of this album? Well, Frozen Charlotte is largely a continuation of the Jack White Rockin' Redemption Arc Revue, and that's a perfectly happy end result. The riffs and crazy guitar tones are still worth every "Dollar Bill," but for every "Derecho" or "G.O.D." there's a "You'll Never Fix Me" or "I Can't Believe What I'm Hearing." These songs are totally fine and good and enjoyable but many never manage to elevate beyond that, or indeed, to the incredible heights of No Name. If I sound overly critical of this ultimately very good rock record, it's only because we've all seen what White is truly capable of, and it's not "merely" castoff songs from one of the best guitar-driven albums we've seen in a very long time. Still, I shouldn't complain too much. Frozen Charlotte not being as impactful or as memorable as No Name is not a functional criticism when it seems that so few songwriters are as consistently capable as Jack White still is. Check out the great ones, like the phenomenal one-two punch that opens the album, or "Neighbors Blues," and then go locate your other favorites from this solid set of tunes. (Edited)
