To the ones that I mentioned the other day, I must add New Order's run of Power, corruption and lies - Low-life - Brotherhood. I've recently revisited them and they still sound brilliant. If we can turn it into a four-album run, Technique is also great.
Radiohead: The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV
Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals
The Who: Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia
Creedence Clearwater Revival: Green River, Willy and the Poor Boys, Cosmo's Factory
I read the whole thing and thought nobody was going to say grateful dead after over 10 pages, but damn, finally.
tool: undertow, aenima, lateralus.... I would have expected you guys to be on this....
rush: hemispheres, permanent waves, moving pictures (which album screws it up though???)
van morrison: astral weeks, moondance, his band and the street choir (you don't like street choir I guess??)
fleetwood mac: 1975 self titled, rumours, tusk (you guys have no excuse for this one)
nine inch nails: pretty hate machine, the downward spiral, the fragile (I'm not the biggest fan here but I would have expected some love from you guys. meh, I guess the fragile isn't good enough)
lynyrd skynyrd: pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd, second helping, nothin fancy (last album might bring it down a bit but pronounced is too good to leave this off)
nick cave and the bad seeds: let love in, murder ballads, the boatman's call (COME ON GUYS!!! the albums on both ends of this are good enough for a 5 run as well)
john lennon: plastic ono band, imagine, mind games ("not good enough," my balls)
judas priest: 1st 9 are all good.... british steel, point of entry, screaming for vengeance (for some ppl prob: sad wings of destiny, sin after sin, stained class)
the strokes first impressions of earth isn't good enough even though room on fire and ITI more than make up for it? zenyatta mendatta fucks it up for the police? why does it have to be right in the middle of their 5 albums? still probably a top 100 3 album run on either side. I would also expect smashing pumpkins gish through melancholy to have been listed even though I'm not a huge fan... and marilyn manson's antichrist superstar, mechanical animals, and holy wood all had mad followers although maybe not many ppl liked all 3 of them (I myself only like AS).
I've come to the conclusion that Patti Smith is the most underrated artist there is though, how has it been 16 pages w/o: HORSES, RADIO ETHIOPIA, EASTER.............? wow, guys. you failed miserably.
you also forgot, I don't know....
RHCP: blood sugar sex magic, one hot minute, californication (no, OHM isn't as good as BSSM but wtf is?)
coldplay: parachutes, a rush of blood to the head, X&Y (I was tempted to cut parachutes for their 4th Viva la Vida as well, don't know how neither of the trios were mentioned)
arctic monkeys: whatever ppl say I am, fav worst nightmare, humbug
black keys: attack and release, brothers, el camino
funkadelic: self titled, free your mind and your ass will follow, maggot brain
queens of the stone age: rated r, songs for the deaf, lullabies to paralyze (really any stretch of 3 in the 6)
pj harvey: dry, rid of me, to bring you my love
foo fighters: self titled, the colour and the shape, there is nothing left to lose
dead kennedys: fresh fruit for rotting vegetables, plastic surgery disasters, frankenchrist
I was very surprised to see so many more ppl claiming david bowie's best was stationtostation through "heroes" as opposed to hunky dory through aladdin sane... maybe the worst album of all 6 is aladdin sane but that trilogy is still better on average. also LOL at taking forever on the hendrix. I would have thought bruce springsteen would be easier but those are more complicatedly spread out than I thought... I still really want to argue for darkness on the edge of town, the river, nebraska (as hard as it is to say that born to run isn't as good as nebraska, if only the river wasn't in there it would be way higher on the list of 3-in-a-rows as born to run through nebraska). at least greetings from asbury park NJ through tunnel of love can be considered among the very best 8 runs!
now for extreme metal that no one cares about but is way underrated:
atheist: piece of time, unquestionable presence, elements
megadeth: peace sells but who's buyin, so far so good so what, rust in peace
slayer: reign in blood, south of heaven, seasons in the abyss
death: any 3 in a row of their 7 really but scream bloody gore, leprosy, spiritual healing I guess
carcass: symphonies of sickness, necroticism, heartwork
entombed: left hand path, clandestine, wolverine blues
pantera: cowboys from hell, vulgar display of power, far beyond driven
props to whoever already mentioned morbid angel. but everyone going atliens through stankonia instead of southernplayalisticadillacmusik through aquemini are donkeys.
now that I've finished the work on 3 runs (except maybe more metal that no one cares about), can we move onto 6 runs? it's a better number anyway.
The more I've listened, the more it seems weird that people don't like Magical Mystery Tour. The only song I would discount on that record is "Fool on the Hill" and it's not like Paul didn't have a song like that on each of the other Beatle's albums people listed here short of Rubber Soul.
It's not about the quality of tracks on "MMT" (since Walrus or Strawberry Fields are among the best songs they ever made), the problem is we tend to see it as a collection of singles plus a few more tracks rather than a "regular" album.
I agree it's underrated and makes a surprisingly consistent listen.
End of OT.
Beatles Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper
Pixies Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova
The Cure Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith
Bowie Station to Station, Low, Heroes
QOTSA Rated R, Songs for the Deaf, Lullabies to Paralyze _________________ Always shouts out something obscene
rush: hemispheres, permanent waves, moving pictures (which album screws it up though???)
I don't think any of those three screw it up. That's a truly great and creative stretch. Hemispheres is the one I go back to the most, Permanent Waves is the one i think is the strongest, and Moving Pictures is the "classic."
Though most people would probably tell you Hemispheres because it's a little too prog for it's own good but I don't mind that fact personally. I fuckin love Rush and that era is about as good as they get. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
And Magical Mystery Tour is a good album but it's an American product. I'm not sure the Beatles had much to do with the production of said product. I like it a lot even though I wouldn't say it's okay to put it in a discussion like this. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned Cohen's perfect run of Songs of Leonard Cohen, Songs From A Room, and Songs of Love And Hate. But that def deserved recognition of one of the most amazing. _________________ -Ryan
