Farmhouse is your favorite, huh? Can't say I agree. Junta is their most ambitious, and A Picture of Nectar or Rift are their most impressive albums musically, to me.

Rift is a second. I love split open and melt and sleeping lengthwise, and well actually the whole album. Probably after that is Lawn Boy. I never really got into Nectar.
Sorry, I should clarify - Farmhouse is my favorite "studio album". It has songs on it - it's more cohesive/less silly (which I do love... playing the vacuum and all... but), it has complex/intriguing music, yet isn't over the top and "believable" with a tinge of pop (A culmination that typically creates the aesthetic I usually appreciate most). So yes, farmhouse is fantastic to me. And it still dives into a live jam (I think it literally is a live take)- yet still feels like a Studio album without the quirkiness to it. It also seems the most earnest - yet slightly silly. The song Dirt nearly makes me cry every time I hear it. The first half of the album is fun-loving jam music you can dance to. The last half is more the jazz/jam musicianship I really like about them. It might be a lens thing too - it's the album that got me into Phish. I immediately loved it. When I went to go buy Rift, it had to grow on me.
Probably my favorite live album of theirs (partially because I own it and partially because I like it better than the other 4 lives albums I've listened to... so by no means a full on Phish Head) is this:

The album that got me into Phish was Billy Breathes and the song that makes me cry is Waste (although Dirt is very good on that level as well).
And that other Aste song, ie Taste on Billy Breathes is that other jazzy side of Phish I, like you, like so much. I now think that I maybe should get a bit more in the studio albums before delving too deep in the live albums: although I know some of the tracks I still have to the listen to the complete Farmhouse and Rift albums.
It's funny but don't you also have the idea that the tracks with the shortest titles are also the most focused Phish tracks 😉

As in travel the country following them from show to show why yes I did some of the happiest moments of my life at least up until my daughter was born. Young free and listening to live music I love while having crazy adventures all over the USa. It was truly a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago.

I toured off and on from 1989-1995. Saw some great and crazy shit during that time.
Cool - that's about the same time my brother did too. Same stories and great memories. And when he wasn't, he was a fisherman in Alaska or a hippie in Oregon.
