Music To Eat by Hampton Grease Band

Wow! I have some thoughts on this. Let's get the inevitable Captain Beefheart and Zappa comparisons out of the way. Understandable but they are their own unique beast. They are I guess, an avant garde jam band with so much fusion -(improv jazz, experimental noise rock, blues, punk...in 1971?!?, rock n roll, country, garage rock, psych, and more) were they too ahead of their time to be appreciated? And why aren't they more appreciated now? I had never heard of them before but I feel they should be known now. I get a lot of people wouldn't like this but I think there was so much to listen to and it kept me intrigued and entertained, off guard with no idea of what might come next. Starting with an opus that's basically a humourous invite to come to Halifax (it has fertile ground lol) with what could be many songs but somehow the jarring changes are fun,, not annoying. Maria was a bit of a throwaway, not sure if it works. Six was where I thought these guys would have been fascinating to see live, and I bet each time would be different. Evans was the highlight of the album. It blew me away. It's got the structure of a lot of my favourite songs - starting with a slow atmoshperic build, then rocking out for a while (or jamming, or whatever) in the main body of the song, then an intense, chaotic, noisy finish. The rest of the album showed they can rock, and confirmed that I actually like his voice. The final track os the closest they get to too much self indulgent noodling, but they don't because it's the music world they've created that their being indulgent too, not themselves, and I am joining them in that world. Just my thoughts, sorry for waffling a bit but I really had a blast with this album. Needless to say straight on to my charts. I've already recommened them to my music mate for his take. Thanks Glynspsa!

This was a good record hell maybe even great. Do love the similarities to Gas as well as Boards of Canada while retaining there own identity. Though I have to admit even though there is quality for the project, just wasn't crazy about it. It feels like a project that breezes like leaves through the wind. To be forgotten over time unless your like us and would go through 2000 for the music it gave and grade records accordingly.

Now for my album, I'm a bit stumped but I'll provided this.

It's Dwele with his debut Subject from 2003. Unless you have heard this, let me know. I will change it.

From Luigii:

Moonbuilding 2703 by The Orb

Alright, this one was dope. Great textures and atmospheres. And it was the perfect music to play in the background in the office today. This was my first experience with The Orb and I will have to check out more in the future for sure. 4/5

For Luigii:

Nightbath by Galen Tipton

(Bubblegum Bass / Wonky)

~~~~~
@Skinny your free rec is to whomever is above your post. So now that I've recommended to Luigii, it would not be to him if you posted now.
Rush To Relax by Eddy Current Suppression Ring
This was a good energetic punk album. Thanks for introducing me to some more obscure Australian artists.
Skinny, this is for you. Early 90's hardcore.
@baystateoftheart
Damn this is some great shit. I do remember Melon shouting out this album from his Bandcamp series and after listening to it, it is some colorful, bouncy and strange electronic music. Anybody that is a fan of the weird side of electronic music should give this a listen. Will make it on my 2018 list later on in the year.
Now for an album? Here's more Jamiroquai.
Just listened to:
The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend by Baby Huey
Oh hell yeah! This album was a blast from beginning to end and I'm upset I didn't listen to this sooner. The Curtis Mayfield produced instrumentals paired with Baby Huey's massive vocals was a match made in heaven and it's truly a shame Baby Huey wasn't around to make more music. I highly recommend this album to anybody who enjoys funk, soul, R&B, or just really amazing vocals.
My recommendation is:
Time And A Word by Yes
Yes' second album is a highly underrated album in my opinion. It sounds like ELO crossed with traditional Yes, with a little splash of the Smile Sessions. It's a typical Yes album with complex instrumentations and lofty ambitions, and a lot of this album plays very well after multiple listens. Have fun!
