First album from that list to actually already be in the database.
This isn't worth $1000, but, damn, this is some hot stuff right here. Fantastic, dark, terrifying, gangsta rap from New Orleans. This should be better known for sure. Tracks are oddly long, most over 5 minutes. Gangsta has never been my favorite subgenre, but this is honestly a great rap album. Well put together, well produced (for the time, now it would be dated to most), and well performed. One of the better albums on the list that I've heard so far.

Panopticon by Isis
This started out as something where I was like, ooh, this is cool. It reminds me of what I like about Tool or Thrice. Baritone or baritone sounding/drop tuned guitars and stuff with things. Anyway, I felt like they would carry on with this musical idea that was ok at best for like 3 minutes and it started to actually get on my nerves. But so many elements I like with other bands... melodic bass for one. Idk... there was a bit of me that thought it'd grow on me, but those long boring passages really killed it for me. It almost was a metal band that was trying to be ambient and that'd be a cool idea... it just wasn't executed well imo. 80

This was fine, not as good as the last. Beats left a lot to be desired, but Mr. Ivan was one of the more unique MC's I've heard so far in terms of flow and delivery, so that's a plus.

I like Creedence so it was great to hear another album of theirs and experience more than their hits and singles. I Really enjoyed it. 8/10, 12/29 for 1969, 36/81 for the 60's.

I love Bloom, always have. Song-for-song, it's probably the best Beach House album. In particular, the four-song opening run is godlike. And listening to this on good headphones illustrates how magical the arrangements and vocals are. Are they sonically derivative of Cocteau Twins? Sure. But they've added better lyrics and more hooks, so I don't see the problem. I'm 99% sure that the main reason I had this rated so low is because of the hidden track at the end, which involves an annoying six minutes of silence. But I've decided I should stop penalizing Bloom (and other albums) for having a hidden track and just focus on the music. And what do you know, it has now rocketed into my overall chart. 88.3/100 (4.5/5).

I Could Live In Hope by Low
Why I really liked this and thought house painters were garbage... dunno. I think one issue I've had with slowcore albums so far though is they don't seem genuine... like some of the lyrical elements feel like they are trying to have an emotion, but fail to really convey it in the performance. Small beef... really still solid. Musically this was great. 85-90.

Oh, I listened to Animals a while ago. Largely boring, but not bad by any means. Similar to how I feel about Wish You Were Here, Meddle, In the Court of the Crimson King, etc... in that I wish things actually happened most of the time, but unfortunately they don't. I feel absolutely no desire to return to it, but I won't actively protest if someone put it on. 3.25/5
2. Seth, it's your lucky day! Check out the compositional wonder that is Construcao. The opening chords of Olha Maria, the build of the title track, and the contrapuntal string/piano parts in Deus Lhe Pague alone make it a masterpiece.

Construção by Chico Buarque
While I didn't find this better than his contemporaries, these were fine arrangements indeed. While not necessarily more plush, definitely more mature orchestrations. I really liked elements of this, but didn't fall in love with anything as a whole. Still solid. 80-85
2. Woah... so many good options to choose from. I'll choose Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins.

First time I've heard this as a negative thing (silence and then a hidden track)... tell me more about why you don't like it?
So like Endless Nameless or whatever it's called at the end of KidA? I think those are genius tracks and somehow like the whole "subconscious journey into a tunnel" and then popping out on the other side with something unexpected.
Beck and U2 have them, but they aren't songs... it's like warnings the album is over (like a bell or alarm going off) and those I don't care for because it's not really a hidden musical track.

I agree that Animals and Wish You Were Here are overrated. Meddle and In the Court... I like quite a bit more, but still can see where you are coming from on those too.
