Nailed it.
I am quite surprised it is BEA's current number 1 of 2020, assumed Fiona Apple was streets ahead.
Anyway, it's perfectly solid and enjoyable, I've listened to it multiple times, but it's not hitting on the same level as other Strokes albums and is way, way down my 2020 charts. _________________

Best 2020 album without a doubt. Very refined indy music like I love. Car seat headrest disappointed a lot with "Making A Door Less Open", Hayley Williams "Petals For Armor" was good but a bit "meh" but the strokes at the contrary really hit the mark in 2020 with this! GG

It's on and off my 2020 chart. Was 100 for a long time. It's a very good album, but I agree with Skinny, Is This It is still miles ahead of any other Strokes album. Room On Fire is also better imo, but I can see why bigger Stroke fans than myself may view this as a pinnacle of their sound. In a way it is, but it's just not that great of an album. Ode To The Mets is a great jam. _________________ Overall chart

I'm disappointed but not surprised that this became #1 for 2020 once the overall charts kicked in. Par for the course when BEA thinks every Strokes album ever made is one of history's top 1200 albums. _________________ Join us in the canon game / Add me on RYM

Comparing it with the rest of their discography, I fail to see how this would rank anywhere near Room On Fire - let alone above it. Obviously no comment regarding Is This It, it would be outright blasphemous. I respect the natural progression of their sound and how they managed to remain relevant 20 years deep into their journey, but it's simply that their "carefree" version is miles ahead of their "sophisticated" version. The only track I would consider as nearly great is the closer, Ode to the Mets.
Comparing it with other 2020 albums, this would hardly make my top 50 - and 2020 was an extremely weak year for me in terms of discovering new music. On the other hand, I can't say that any of the "big" 2020 albums particularly moved me, so I'm fine with it being the album of the year.

i have no strong opinions on a new strokes record in the year 2021. It is certainly the best thing they've made in a long time but they've been coasting on being competent since 2005. 2020 was a good of a year for music and will probably be found to be more rewarding over time (so many new voices had the opportunity to release things through it). This might seem on odd choice to have as BEA's number 1 for 2020 but it begins to make sense after you consider our top 10 for the year has like 5 trash records just nestled right in there.
