I came very close to using that painting for an album cover about 5 years ago.
Going to give this a spin later. Mdou Moctar and Erika de Casier first.
Robert Finley, Burial, CHAI, Colleen, Olivia Rodrigo, Lydia Ainsworth, plenty. Black Midi leaked too.
EDIT: The bolded ones are really good. The sound Erika de Casier managed to land is a feat by itself. Super '95-'01 throwback vibes, but with a new coat of paint.
EDIT EDIT: Sensational is straight bangers. What a record. Just finished a second listen. Mixing is ridiculous. _________________ Doubles & Conch

Is it good? I’m always up for some Mach Hommy, don’t think I’ve heard a mediocre album from him.
Definitely one of the better hip-hop albums this year. Is it Mach's best album? No. But it is a highlight in his discography. Well worth a listen. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
Another record I listened to this morning is the new BABii album. Some UK Bass similar to what Iglooghost makes. BABii is actually a frequent collaborator with Iglooghost and is part of the collective Gloo. It was a gorgeous listen but a bit forgettable. That was just one listen though I'll definitely be returning to it. _________________ Griselda, by Fashion Rebels 2020's Hip-Hop 2020's Country
You know what? The new Olivia Rodrigo is not even half bad. Doubt it's gonna remain in my top 100 for too long, but a solid debut all around. The sound she's going after isn't very unique, but she does write decent tunes and it's different to most pop in the mainstream circles nowadays. Didn't delve too deep into the lyrics and stories, but I don't expect they're too good based on the singles so I'm not missing anything. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
Afrique Victime by Mdou Moctar
This came out today, getting solid reviews. Just listened and it's every bit as good as they say. Need a few more spins but this is looking like top 10 material for the year, definitely my favorite desert blues and West African album of the year so far. Admittedly only listened to a few from the genre and region but Afrique Victime is great. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
The full album Cavalcade by black midi just arrived on Apple Music. Not sure if it also just dropped for Spotify. It’s a couple days early. Maybe the leaks just kinda forced their hands. Anyway, it’s black midi and it’s great if you can listen, go for it. _________________ -Ryan
Excellent black + death metal mix with touches of symphonic metal. It's like a psychotic nightmare come to life. Might end up slipping to my #1.
Actually, it is my favorite album of 2021 thus far.
Thanks
For the rec. was eyeing that album earlier. Will check it out. I heard this one yesterday and I was very very impressed and even delighted by the sound/style of this band. It’s Peogressive Death Metal, but there’s something insouciant or playful about it or a willingness to ones do whatever regardless of genre limitations.
... and the hype is real. This is some seriously WILD and genius level avant garde Prog. It’s distinctly it’s own thing, a hard thing to be in 2021. But I hear some Henry Cow and King Crimson and some of the more weird Mike Patton projects in this album. It’s mesmerizing what these people created.
There must be something in the water at The Windmill - because Cavalcade, Black Country New Road and Squid’s debuts, and even that Shame album all
Hit special. The fact they all came up in the same area or club at least is mind boggling. _________________ -Ryan
