I've gone with 'Something for Kate' because I really like them and Echolalia is brilliant! (sorry Harkan)

Okay from best to worst

1. Echolalia
2. Desert Lights
3. Beautiful Sharks

Pre-Beautiful Sharks, they were more grunge and aggressive as Dempsey had been influenced by Fugazi and the like. Beautiful Sharks and Echolalia are almost companion albums and show their transition into more commerically viable music. Desert Lights is okay.

My wife and about half of my close friends absolutely hate Paul Dempsey's voice because he either is monotonal or "sings like a robot." Not surprising, Dempsey had lyrics in the song "Hawaiian Robots":

I'm better off as a robot...

🤣 pretty much how I feel. Also how is married life treating you?

Not so much of a robot now though.

Married life is good but she still doesn't get why I am on BEA all the time. She's the music teacher and I think I am more passionate about talking music sometimes. We are moving to the country for work near Christmas so it's all happening in the Harkan Household.

I think the sentimentality around the album for me is something that I hold onto when thinking of great albums. It was the first I bought with my own money and it was jsut near the end of high school for me when I really thought, "hey, I need to start listening to more music besides what's on the radio."

totally get this...it's probably why I still hold on to Coldplay and defend them so staunchly.

Love some Coldplay. Haven't heard all of Mylo Xyloto yet but I have Rush Of Blood up in my chart.

Her music taste is varied. From Westlife to 30 Seconds To Mars to Muse to Pink Floyd to Beyonce to classical to Eurovision to Three Days Grace to Nat King Cole to (you get the picture)

And yes, rural SA is wine country. Coonawarra region is where we will be.

I wonder how many people actually heard The Middle East, but it's not a shame losing to such a great album.
