A walk through a dark country wood. Nothing but your biggest, darkest thoughts. Though A Crow Looked at Me is more concrete than that, that's the pervading sensation that comes to mind when I think of the album. Phil Elverum chronicles grief and death through the starkness of everyday life. A closed office, a toothbrush, going to the store, the closing of a door, a backpack. Each detail tied to someone who's never coming back. It still makes my heart ache.
