Not very special, but honest and true like a conversation with a therapist.

I want to liken this album to the film Schindler's List. It's honest, brutal, and beautiful in a really sick way. It's uncomfortably intimate and without melodies it's barely music. Anyone who has experienced loss in their life should be moved to tears listening to this album. I know I am. Go hug your loved ones, everyone. Nothing lasts forever. 10/10

It's really hard to rate this album, which I think is more poetry with musical backing, rather than 'music' in the traditional sense. Heart-breaking. That's the only word that can be used to describe this album.

This album is so personal and so geniune listening to it almost feels like an invasion of privacy at some point, he poured his grief into this deep and intense record which is one of the hardest ones to listen throughoutly

It's a great thing when an album is causing such a debate. It means it's important and unique enough to create a (reasonably) healthy discussion. But it is a hard listen, can't rate it yet...

I don't even know to rate this album, so I won't for a while. It's so visceral.

There are lines that made my face turn pale and my jaw drop. I want to list a few as examples but I don't want to take away any rawness for those who haven't listened. It's a hard listen but it's a good one.

Sorry but I don't really feel like the sadness on this album is very remarkable. The stripped-back songs just feel boring and lack any melody. But most of all the tone of this album just doesn't really impact me. Real Death is meant to be one of those ultradepressing songs but I just didn't feel it. The lyrics and music feel disconnected and don't work for me, and hence I didnt really feel any emotions when I listened to this album. He just sounds like he's rambling on about whatever while strumming ever now and then. Incredibly repetitive. Sorry to be negative but this I just can't consider this album as having much artistic merit. Not for me

This is probably the most genuine album I've ever heard. I know lots of people think that Phil is trying to "sell" his wife's death here; using it as an excuse to profit more. That seems conceivable until you learn even a tiny amount about the man. He is one of the most genuine people, nothing about him is part of a shtick. He is fiercely personal, individualistic, and anti-development to the point of being nearly effectively amish. Before his wife died, he was going to go build a cabin out on an abandoned island where only he and his two family members would live. That's no public persona. So you can just F right off if you think he made this to sell records. I usually don't give a crap what others think about artists intentions and such, but I find that just disrespectful. You don't have to like it as a piece of art, but as a statement as a whole, don't think for one second that it doesn't come from the bottom of his heart
