You have to put albums like this into context though. If this were an album released in 2025, I wouldn't buy it and would consider it rather mundane but this was at the start of a whole new genre of music, so viewing it in that context, it's a decent album.
I think that contemporaries like, the Doors (you can hear so much Doors here or is it that you can hear Country Joe in the Doors?) Love, Jefferson Airplane. All of those bands seem more mature than Country Joe.
Still exploring this album but I'm finding it an interesting listen. Enjoyed the second and third listens more than the first.
What about you? Did you get a chance to revisit? |
I did! Wanted to get your take first. I personally love it. Especially that first side. Currently I think side 1 is essential Psychedelic Music. On the fence about side 2. I wouldn't put it on the same level as The Doors or Love either, but it's just the next rung down. It would be one of my favorite releases if it was released this year for sure. BUT, I've had this in my collection now for decades. lol. So I'm quite biased. Would easily make my TOP FIVE psychedelic albums of 1967 <which would be a fun list to compile! Might just have to do that. >
edit: Just looked at RYM's Top Psychedelic albums of 1967, and, my apologies, that year is STACKED! I'm very curious now where I would place our heroes, Country Joe and Fish! |
Thanks for feeding back repo. I think that repeat listens will move this album up my rankings. I can definitely see why people will consider it a classic especially for 1967. Going to listen a few more times before my group meets.
Thought that I’d feedback what is discussed and then start a new topic around the next 60’s album that we decide on. |
Sounds good! What albums have u discussed with your group in the past? |
I’ve only just joined that group so this is my first album. Will need to see if it’s a worthwhile thing to pursue but from my contact with the group so far, through Padlet, they seem like a decent and knowledgeable bunch so looking forward to my first meet up.
Thanks for all your feedback. Would have been nice if others had engaged but enjoy our chat.
Look out for the next 60’s album. Let’s keep this going, if you are interested in doing that. |
Sounds good![/quote]
