I didn't want to start a new thread, but RIP Austin Peralta. Maybe I'm taken aback by his death because he was born a month after me. I don't know. I do know that anyone with even a passing interest in jazz has to hear his album Endless Planets (released last year on Brainfeeder) - it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it sums up the potential that Peralta had brilliantly. Anyway, here's an awesome video I found on a blog today that sums up his beautiful music perfectly.

To me it all starts with the singer's voice because if they can't deliver the song, or in other words the message that the writer of the song wants the whole world to hear, no one will get it.

God bless you always!!! Smile Smile Smile

P.S. The actual song and what it is about is what comes next for me. Smile Smile Smile

This. And lyrics. A song can sometimes only be good with brilliant lyrics. Bob Dylan proves that. Beautiful stuff.

Are you implying that only his lyrics are good? If that's the case, go listen again.

I believe you only misconstrued that. Not that you're necessarily wrong with your assumption, but in his statement he said "song", not artist so he must have only been referring to one or two of his songs.

As a side note, it's a subjective thing, if he does sincerely feel that, then it's perfectly understandable.

The main thing it boils down to is how it feels to me. Smart lyrics and clever or innovative music is a plus, but even the most rudimentary music and lyrics can be beautiful to my ears. I've often thought about this, and the fact is that there isn't something specific or definable that I look for in music. It's entirely subjective based on the feelings it stirs within me.
