Great album but I think White Blood Cells or De Stijl are a tiny bit better. Let's face it, it's only rated this high because of Seven Nation Army but it's got some brilliant moments .

This album is pretty good. Like with everybody else; I think White Blood Cells is more consistent but this has higher peaks. I mean, listen to Ball And Biscuit. And I don't even have to mention Seven Nation Army. Overplayed? Yes. But it's still noteworthy.

This is quite good. It always seemed to me to be less focused or invigorating as either De Stijl, or WBC. And I also rate Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan higher in my mind. But with a band such as this, where every album is fabulous in its own way, it means very little which album is "better" or "worse". It depends much more upon my mood and the circumstances when I hear it.

For Elephant, well it contains some of the greatest moments and songs the Stripes ever recorded. "Seven Nation Army" and "Ball And Biscuit" and "Girl, You Hbe No Faith In medicine" oh my! These are just exhilarating performances. The album, though at times for me a bit inconsistent, as a whole is quite fascinating. They really do a lot here.

WBC and De Stijl were just more visceral and unhinged. But Elephant was their big statement. It's pretty fabulous. I miss the days when I could look forward to another great White Stripes album every year or 2.

Maybe I'm a bad person for not adoring this album, but I barely even like it sometimes. Overrated as can be, if you ask me.

Track picks
1. Seven Nation Army
5. In The Cold, Cold Night
8. Ball And Biscuit
10. Little Acorns

White Blood Cells over this any day. Though this is still great it doesn't meet the pure energy behind White Blood Cells.
