Honestly, Tom Zé is my pick to win this tournament. He's maybe the one who followed more wholeheartedly the ideas of Tropicalia, and the one who got more ambitious after that thing was over. An unquiet man, bursting with new ideas, fantastic lyricist, who used a lot of experimentation in his music , which is the perfect combination between the more traditional brazilian music and other sounds.

It never ceases to amaze me how he got an album with an anus on the cover to pass through severe censorship during the disctatorship.

Dude's almost 80 and continues to be in full activity, being one of the central artists in the national alternative music scene till this day. Tom Zé is one of the greatest live acts I've ever seen. Oh, I'd give my arms to see one of the concerts he did with Tortoise back in the day... A genius. You'll never be disappointed by any of his 16 albums (and a lot of other stuff too).

It'd be silly to expect him to win this round, but would be really cool if all those people who voted had actually given him a chance. If you haven't, just give this a spin:

Don't get me wrong: I love Zé. Discovered him back in '02 when he releases Jogos de Armar, loved everything I've listened to from him ever since. Original, innovative, fun.

But this is Ornette, one of my 2-3 favourite musicians ever. The Shape of Jazz to Come. I have like 10 of his albums in various charts of mine. I'm voting for Ornette, but Zé would have won many an other pairing.
