I listened to The Replacements for the first time recently, and found myself thinking the lead sounded a lot like Kurt Cobain. Bryan Ferry and David Byrne also sound pretty similar to me. What singers have you confused for each other, or found remarkably similar?

Captain Beefheart sounds a lot like Howlin' Wolf. I'm guessing it's not a coincidence.

I remember spending ages trying to find this "mystery Coldplay song".

Same thing happened to me long ago for Morrissey after one listen to this on the radio:

A couple of extreme examples of swagger jacking that immediately sprang to mind:

The dude sounds so much like David Byrne at certain points during this song that it threatens to undermine the entire thing. Then again, it's such a great song that it doesn't really matter. In fact, it's sort of charming hearing the extent to which he rips off Byrne's phrasing. I always thought the guy from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sounds a bit like David Byrne's unstable younger brother too. Again, it's the phrasing.

Then there's this gem, on which Free Murder performs a fantastic Jay-Z impression.

And, of course, Rhye are Sade.

I'll add more as and when I think of them. There are lots of examples of artists appropriating the vocal habits and tics of others (Malkmus' phrasing is often reminiscent of Mark E. Smith's, for example, although to say they "sound the same" would definitely be stretching it), but cases where two vocalists sound almost identical are rarer, thankfully.

This guy to a slightly lesser extent, just in the verses and a little in the chorus:

And some would say Paul Banks of Interpol but I don't hear that as much. Same with Matt Berninger of The National (I mean really, that I don't hear at all.)

Beck and the dude from Eels sound really similar to each other sometimes.
