Either the second or third most important & impactful debut in metal history. It literally changed everything over night.

While they still were not the most important metal band at the time - that would be Iron Maiden - they were definitely now in position to take the throne by force in the next couple of years.

Ride The Lightning
Kill Em' All
Master of Puppets
----------------------
And Justice for All
---------------------
--------------------
--------------------
everything else. (I personally don't like the Black album and prefer Death Magnetic. Load was a guess what. Sometimes the title does suffice. )

Will be interested to hear people's thoughts on post-Justice Metallica since I didn't follow them closely at all after that.

It's hard to overstate how important this album was to me in my life. Much the same way it changed the course of metal/hard rock it also had a similar epochal effect upon my musical life. This bands first four albums was for sure the first thing I really felt I rallied around.

As for this album specifically, it's so fast and aggressive and testosterone fueled fun but just one of those debuts that is so fucking intense and clear in intent that it is awe inspiring in a way. As far as blow torch intense debut statements it's held in the same regard as Surfer Rosa, The Clash, and The New York Dolls. I love it.

I have find memories of being at a new school ad being surrounded by about a dozen boys my age who shares my love for System Of A Down. And the awesomeness of when I whipped out Kill Em All to show them a band that was faster and more intense than anything they were listening to (probably). They were blown away (at least as I remember 13 years ago). I made a few thrash fans that day.

Also Kill Em All is for my money the best of the first wave of thrash debut albums.

Kill Em All > Show No Mercy > (a bit later) Bonded By Blood > Fistful of Metal > (a bit later) Killing Is My Business...

No question! I'd probably rank Killing Is My Business third though after Show No Mercy. Mustaine's guitar playing was simply on another level c/w everyone else. Love all five though!!! Very Happy

I'm going to have my own tourney of Fistful of Metal versus Bonded By Blood for fourth & fifth place right now. My life is so fucking cool!!! Laughing I'll keep u guys informed of all the exciting deets. LOL.

No I honestly adore you, Repoman. You're like almost a musical soulmate.

As for opinions of post Justice Metallica albums? It generally sucked. I only marginally like The Black Album. Load and Reload suck ass. st. Anger was one of the greatest musical laughs of my first 20 years. Death magnetic was cool, but all in all if say it wasn't too special. Felt like a vague rehashing of their old selves with none of the hyperactive innate energy. And dumb lyrics. I like their garage albums a bit. A bit. And their live S&M was not good at all when untried to get into it.

But the first 4 albums are great. Edit: their first three LPs were swig fervent levels of LEGENDARY GREAT ASTOUNDING and their 4th was merely AWESOME.

I agree with you guys.
It didn't have such impact on my musical life, but still I've always liked this album: it's fast and wonderfully fresh, catchy and physical (as much as it should be) in every song.
And one of my favourite Metallica's, obv.

Not as good as the two that came after it IMO, but I still like it enough to include it on my overall chart. It was a real breath of fresh air at the time, and Seek and Destroy is easily my favourite Metallica song.

A badass album, and my third-favorite Metallica album.

Thank you Dave Mustaine, I wish Metallica had never kicked you out
