A week ago, I was talking to my mom about how "hipster is dead", and how things seem to be popular for only two seconds now before quickly becoming uncool.

"You know who always will be cool?", my mom asked. "ELVIS!!!"

My mom is the ultimate normcore hipster.

Anyway, about the music itself: In this day and age, Elvis has much more in common with someone like Perry Como than The Beatles. He's a wonderful vocal virtuoso, but at the risk of sounding like a Teletubby, he really isn't an "artist" in the songwriting auteur sense of the word. These songs still be (fairly) bangin, though.

Well, "auteur" or not, this is fantastic. I have a variant of it on my chart (Elvis at Sun) and it makes for incredibly soothing night music, for some reason. Baby rock n' roll was so pretty.

That's all right, Mama.

'Blue Moon' is otherworldly.

This is pretty fabulous stuff. "Mystery Train" never does less than blow me away. "Blue Moon", "It's alright Mama" and "I love you because" are favorites too.
