Hmm, a few years ago I made a thread here about Bob Dylan being overrated, and I really haven't changed my position. This has some really great songs, but if I don't have to hear it again for another decade, you'll hear no complaining from me.

What this album represents for Dylan is astronomical. This isn't even my favorite Dylan album (that would be Blood on the Tracks) but that doesn't take away from it's genuinely incredible influence and splendor.

Yeah, this thing is a marvel. Deserving of its accolades. Incredibly musically consistent and energetic and lyrically dense and touching and kind of eerily spot on at times as well as very cryptic. I'd say the fact that it has so much happening lyrically makes it the greatest example of a completely relistenable album for me - as in I have spent several days especially years ago just listening to this album on repeat trying to get my wits around the "deeper meaning". Did I ever? No probably not. Still it's a legendary album. Top 5 all time for me.

I recently have started to recognize the greatness of blood on the tracks. I don't know, maybe I've kind of been more in a scarred, more aged state and so I relate more to the content of bott more than the more cynical, sneering, intellectual rebelliousness embodied by this album. Idk. Still, yeah God bless Bob D. Love you, sir.

Razz I think it's hard to compare the two, as one obsesses over lyrics and the other obsesses over "beat" and rhythm.

I even think Bob Dylan is really great as a poet. I personally prefer David Tibet, though.

It strikes a balance between the somewhat leaner, more direct Bringing It All Back Home and the denser, more abstract Blonde on Blonde. I tend to like my electric golden age Dylan at those two extremes, so this doesn't get much listening, but it's obviously great.

Haven't listened to this in a few months so I just started it up, hopefully I remember to come back and share some thoughts after this spin. Personally I've always liked Blood on the Tracks the most in Dylan's discography, but this one is also an obvious highlight.
