I remember really being meh about this album in high school, though my opinions of Heaven & Hell and Dehumanizer have risen since. Should I give this another chance?

If you like those albums, absolutely.
This is, in my opinion, one of the best albums RJD was ever involved with. Very few weak tracks, "Stand Up And Shout", "Holy Diver", "Straight Through The Heart", "Rainbow In The Dark", if I was putting together a greatest hits of Ronnie James Dio, all of those would be on it _________________ Progressive Rock

That's actually been done. The Very Beast of Dio. Was gonna post the link but I couldn't find it. Maybe it's in the database.
Holy Diver is pretty good for what it is. Its 75/100 rating sounds about right. I think I slightly prefer The Last in Line but would probably give it the same rating, if I haven't already. They might make my top 100 metal albums. His best Rainbow and Sabbath albums were loads better.

I like both of those albums much better than this one. It's hard for me to take this seriously, for whatever reason.

Well I thought that compilation was specifically for the band Dio. I was referring to everything Dio has been involved with (i.e. Dio, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf) _________________ Progressive Rock

This. Even though I agree with the quality on this album being what it is, Dio's solo career just lacked something musically I guess. Voice of a God but the members around him just didn't do much for me.
Like in Sabbath he has Iommi and Butler, Rainbow he has Ritchie, Cozy, etc.... _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

And in Dio he had Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appice, both of whom were killer at what they do. I mean, I think Iommi and Blackmore are better guitarists than Campbell, though he's no slouch by any stretch and Appice is right up there with Ward and Cozy (though I think both are probably better, but not by leaps and bounds). _________________ Progressive Rock
