Seems that every year, we need at least one shitty attempt to recapture a bygone era where sound design (ostensibly) didn't exist. Seems that every year, that shitty attempt is also given a bunch of praise because idk acoustic guitars immediately signal "cerebral" and "deep" to people with poor attention spans who would rather listen to someone sing bad poetry than read good poetry. The Wild Hunt was 2010's entry in this category.

that's a pretty condescending, elitist way of looking at it. could it be that some people really do prefer acoustic guitars and aren't fronting some /r/iamverysmart complex?

sure. it would be pretty cool if every artist ever geeked out on production, but that's just not everybody's cup of tea.

what we have here is a good guitarist writing good (albeit traditional) music. it's not something i'm going to listen to so much, but i see no problem with the album or the artist or the fans of it.

Great pick !

This is the best album by The Tallest Man On Earth. This record has a an interesting country/folk touch.

If you like it, also listen to his new album Dark Bird Is Home (first song to listen : Seventeen).

if every acoustic guitar-wielding sadsack wasn't such a self-satisfied prig, i probably wouldn't have such a reactionary view of their music. not to mention, for all the people who are into this sort of thing, there's certainly entire landfills full of comparably bland and shitty music by the forgotten artists of yesteryear. or there's, you know, actual American folk music, chronicled extensively by ethnomusicologists and being about actual problems of artists with actual emotive capability. but sure let's keep picking out our once-a-year sadboy, because we clearly love acoustic music so well that we listen to a whole album of it every 365 days!

oh, certainly, yes. i agree with you. 100%. this is the one bland, shitty album that was scraped up by the acoustic-guitar-wielding narcissists of yesteryear who don't actually listen to the music they claim to love but once a year. a boatload of tools, those sad bastards. you're absolutely spot on in your assessment of his fan-base. they don't like acoustic music. they just want to have something they can play on the guitar that makes them look smart, which is ironic because they wouldn't know "real folk music" if it slapped 'em upside the head.

Uhm... Ignore Satie. He doesn't like this album but has spent a loooooooong time working out why he's not a fan. This undoubtedly makes him look very smart to everyone reading his comments.

This album is absolutely one of my favorite albums ever. It's such a warm, beautiful album. It never fails to cheer me up. I just love his guitar style, beautiful picking. And I really love the production, it just feels so personal and creates just the right atmosphere for the music. I love his rough and emotional vocals. I love his heartfelt, gorgeous poetic lyrics. He just knows how to capture a feeling and an atmosphere with his simple, stripped down music. Truly this is one of the greatest albums ever made. 100/100.

Totally agree with this, which unfortunately is why I wasn't a huge fan of his new album. His voice + the stark production really makes for something special. I'm not too big on a lot of his lyrics but they're good when they matter most ("and I plaaan to be forgotten when I'm gooone"). Highlights are the title track, Love Is All, and Kids On the Run. This is one of those albums that's such a short and emotional ride that I've been putting it on every couple weeks for a while now.
