I love the hell out of Brand New's Science Fiction and I think it's one of the best albums of this decade. But now it turns out Jesse Lacey is a creepy, manipulative bitch who preyed on teenage girls. I'm worried this might ruin the band for me. I don't want Lacey's crimes coming to mind whenever I hear a Brand New song. And what will someone think if they see that I have Brand New in my collection?
What are your thoughts?

It's not too hard to separate art from the artist for me.

I'm still going to watch Louis CK specials (I'm real pissed his movie isn't getting released actually), and I still watch reruns of the Cosby Show when they come on. I've seen too many good movies with Kevin Spacey in them to never watch them again too. But yeah I'm sure I'll think about it.

Critics and fans alike have fawned over Polanksi and Allen for years, when they are probably worse than any of these people that have been exposed in the last several months.

Yeah I remember being 14 years old playing football, and the cheerleaders for our team would do a routine to "Rock and Roll Pt 2" and my Dad would always remark about how weird he thought it was.

It doesn't affect my opinion on art whatsoever. The art of young Adolf Hitler should be evaluated in its own right.

This kind of thing doesn't change my opinion on what is good or not but it does effect my listening and viewing habits. I listen to less Michael Jackson than I would do otherwise and I suspect I will avoid Kevin Spacey films for a while.

I try to avoid giving them more money but I listen to what I have. I still love the Grateful Dead but with some of bobbys affiliations with bohemian grove and he too is believed to have had many run ins with underage girls. I Believe he admits to meeting his wife when she was very young either 14 or 16 don't remember. I try to view the art in a vacuum. It doesn't always work. I get the dilemma. It took me a while to watch 2 1/2 men after it came out sheen was hiv positive and still having unprotected sex. I can watch it now and rarely think of that.

I was in this spot three years ago when Stephen Collins of the show 7th Heaven came forward and admitted to whatever it is that he did way before that show ever once was even thought of. I purchased that entire show on DVD the next day in support of everyone else who made that show as popular as it was. To me, they shouldn't have to pay for something that they had absolutely nothing to do with.

God bless you and them always!!!

Well, first of all it depends on what the person did. Some of the things now being reported as sex offenses are really only sexual advances. Sexual advances are hardly crimes, butl there seems to be an atmosphere that wants to make them crimes.
Anyway, what I do when I find out that a star I like is a sex offender is this: I just listen to "X Offender" by Blondie and then I feel better. feel better
