LMAO. That's probably true. But whenever I hear these names, I have to think for a second, "which one is that?" Of course, this is usually before I've ever heard their music, but only have heard their names. After you're familiar with the artist, it doesn't happen as much. Half of these people I've heard their names but not their music, so I still don't know which is which. Heh heh.

some of them don't make a lot of sense (Front 242 and Level 42) but hilarious anyway and you certainly have a point with Black Flag/Big Black (which one had Albini and which one had Rollins Think ) and Meat Puppets/Minutemen.

Interesting thread. I can't say for sure I get bands mixed up by name, but more often than I'd like to admit I'll be hearing a song and I'm like oh this is totally Queen, and then I find out it's Kansas or some band I never really took the time to listen to cause they sound just like Queen.

And no actually none of that actually happened - I can't really think of a good example, but replace Queen and Kansas with any other band names and you likely have yourself a story to tell.

I suppose one when I was a kid was White Room. Until I was like 16 or so, I thought White Room was a Jimi Hendrix song until I dug in further.

I mean hell I thought that was a Eric Clapton song until this year when I looked into the credits/saw it performed live on YouTube. Totally a Jack Bruce song, Eric is just playing the cool guitar parts, but the structure of the song and melody/singing totally Jack Bruce. Same with Sunshine of Your Love.

Then I realized I nearly don't like anything Eric Clapton has done...

Ok I've chased the rabbit enough.

I also have a funny story on mix ups. When I was young I knew the Kinks for their major hits like anybody else. When I heard some excerpts from One For The Road (which has a bit of a hardrock sound; I don't know which ones any more but it certainly wasn't Lola) on a late night radio show I didn't connect them with the Kinks but I thought they were from an unknown band called the Kings.
Anyway a few months later I saw the light and bought this live album which I still think is one of the best live albums ever.

Around 90% of all heavy metal bands. Within their genres they basically all sound the same to me.
