As I have come to the milestone of 800 albums under my listening, I just end up feeling tired to listening to new music. Now I feel like I will get back in the groove to wanting to listen to new albums, but just curious. Do you guys and girls just ever feel exhausted with listening to new music? Because I've sure had.

It'll come back, don't worry. I've had 1-2 month stints where I grew a little tired seeking out new music, but it always returns.

Sometimes a break is good. Makes you appreciate everything a little more once you come back.

Yeah. I feel like after this black friday season, it will come back. Also even though this isn't music relate, the new Smash Bros will come out. So I might go missing for a bit, but will be behind the scenes. Love the site to much to ditch it.

Seasons of life man.

There was a time in my life when I played bass 2 to 4 hours a day for about a 4 year period of time. I haven't played bass that often for that long for like 2 years now. The same thing happened to me about 4 years previous.

Sometimes what I do to overcome new music bloatedness is I put together a playlist of the best song on new albums (I am currently listening to this 2010s playlist (which is lacking) and use that to drive around to or whatever.

But yeah, if you don't go back and appreciate what you have already found, I think the brain is like dude, what are we doing this for? Never ending flow of new anything can be overwhelming to the brain (I imagine).

Can realistically understand that.

I'd had periods in the past where I was pretty checked out on music, but this decade it feels like I've kept a pretty steady flow, and I have the numbers to prove it for the past 3 years

The longest I've gone without something new was an 8 day period of time around Christmas 2017. I have had lots of 1-3 day breaks, and those really do add up. 131 days with no new listens in 2016, 137 in 2017, and 116 so far this year. It's still felt like a consistent flow though. I think part of what gets it to work for me so well is that there's always a healthy amount of repeat listening. Like I've heard Aviary 12 times so far since it came out at the end of last month. This graph highlights the repeat listens in grey, the height is still determined by the total number of listens for the day but if you look at the darker area, that represents all the repeating.

So yeah I can't really say I've been exhausted with new music in a while, I'll take a breather here and there but I can't go too long resisting the allure of finding out what something is.

I can go months without wanting to discover new music, yet past few weeks have added around 20 albums to my 'listened' list.

I take ages to get through albums too before I move on because there have been a significant number of albums I am initially indifferent to, then after repeated listens have ended up loving. Brick wall

I have a tendency to push myself to listen to a lot of albums in a short span when I'm working on specific charts, so then need to take a break for a few days, maybe a week every once in a while.

I do get exhausted sometimes

The two remedies I use:
-Spend a whole day in silence
-Listen to music that is very familiar
