Shame there are no comments here. This is one of the first album I discovered here that I really fell in love with.
With its unique blend of heartland rock, shoegaze, ambient and psychedelia it somehow manages to sound both old/retro and new/modern.
The War on Drugs have since become one of my favourite 21st century bands, and it's really a toss up between this album and A Deeper Understanding. While the latter has probably better individual songs, the production is often to mechanic and robotic. Lost In The Dream has a much more mellow and warm sound, so it's hard for me to decide which one I like more.
What surprises me are the song ratings here, Red Eyes is a good song but I'd never rank it anywhere near the top 3. let alone as the best song on the album. Suffering, Eyes To The Wind, Lost In The Dream and In Reverse are easily superior. The title track is especially underrated. _________________ All time

I agree, this album along with A Deeper Understanding are two of the best records to emerge in the 2010s. Their introspective and poetic lyrics are beautifully matched by the dreamy shoegaze/70s rock. They've always reminded me a lot of Springsteen. Glad this album is being recognized on "Best of the 2010s" lists
