I avoid Nazi music like the plague. I refuse to listen to any explicit Nazist bands like Nokturnal Mortum, no matter how good the music is. I also like to avoid music that is gory, extremely sexual, or blasphemous (note that saying that you don't believe in God does not constitute as blasphemy). Most of these make death metal a hard genre to navigate. When it comes to violence, Carcass' Heartwork and Necrotism are my limit. I do list to "nationalist" music because it's not the same to me, but I don't want to get into THAT discussion. And I stopped listening to extremely sexual lyrics after hearing about Vanity's pedophilia, and I gave up on gory music after checking out a couple of ICP albums. Anti-religious music is a tough case with a line drawn. Songs like God by John Lennon and Dear God by XTC are completely fine, and Immolation pushes it a little, but I think they're fine (I haven't heard them yet but I've checked out the lyrics). Basically, if the band goes out of their way to insult God, it doesn't make me mad but I prefer not to listen to it, so some great metal bands are out of the picture.
Satanic music is fine (mostly). I'm a fan of Slayer and Darkthrone, who've never really offended me lyrically. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

I don't think I have a problem with any kind of lyrics if a song is good. I can always just ignore what they're singing. However if a band is obviously NSBM, satanic, sexist, blasphemous, promotes violence or anything similar, I try not to support them in any way. That includes not streaming, not buying their albums and if I recommend their music anywhere, I make sure to add a note saying "don't support them because of xy". _________________ Overall chart

I don't really allow myself to listen to individual tracks very often, just albums all the way through. Maybe like once a month I'll be in a weird mood and just listen to a bunch of random tracks for an hour.
In terms of lyrical content I wouldn't exactly 'not allow' myself to listen to nazi music or whatever, but I just know that I never will, I already know that I won't like it and already have so many other better things I could be listening to, it's not a good use of my time.

Even though I do have a few exceptions, I stay away from most songs that are about death in some way. "I Sang Dixie" and "She Wore Red Dresses" from Dwight Yoakam and "Bring My Flowers Now", and "Blood Red And Goin Down" from Tanya Tucker are the few exceptions that come to my mind at the moment. "Why" from Rascal Flatts and "Go Rest High" from Vince Gill are two that I will not listen to.
God bless you and every singer that I mention here always!!!

Well said. I already know I won't like anything that's intentionally racist. While there's obviously a lot of great religious music, I'm inclined to avoid Christian rock. When I say "Christian rock," I don't mean any rock with Christian lyrics, but rock that is too limited to rise above the label "Christian rock."
Don't have a problem with music that criticizes organized religion. Haven't listened to much contemporary or post-80s metal.

There's a lot of great country music, most of which isn't on mainstream country radio. And I see you gave Desire 100/100, which has strong country influence. Why the blanket avoidance? Which country albums have you tried and disliked? _________________ Join us in the canon game / Add me on RYM

Amen to all of this. With there being so much change in country music over the last few decades, there has to be someone that a non country fan doesn't detest.
God bless you always!!!
