I'm more of a Seasons of the Abyss man than a Reign in Blood man. I even like South of Heaven more. The thrash power of Reign in Blood is undeniable, but it's a very monotonous half-hour. On the subject of thrash, there are three Kreator albums that I think are better than Pleasure to Kill because all that album does is thrash. My favorite Kreator album is Coma of Souls. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

Does this prompt mean...?
a. Artists where you think one album is their best but enjoy listening to another album more
b. Artists where you disagree with the consensus regarding their best album _________________ Join us in the canon game / Add me on RYM

I know I'm new to music forums, and I don't mean to be offensive, but I figured this kind of discussion had been done before on places like this. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

I think my most controversial one is that my favourite Paul Simon album is Surprise.

The first one that came to mind was Godspeed, there's absolutely no way List Yr. Skinny Fists is better than F# A#.
I dug through my severely outdated chart and I came up with a few more:
Maiden, The Number of the Beast is great and has Hallowed Be Thy Name, but cmon it's not in the top 3 in terms of overall album experience. Great songs, yeah, but other albums have better ones.
Joy Division's Closer is a better release than Unknown Pleasures. Darker, more intense and interesting, flows really well from song to song. They're pretty different though, so I guess I understand if people prefer the debut more, but Closer is often overlooked.
Dire Straits. I admit I was never a big fan, but Love Over Gold is an incredible release, much better than anything else they've done. Telegraph Road maaaaaan. Also Communiqué and possibly the debut are both better than Brothers in Arms.
Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited is not even near Blood On The Tracks. I'd also take Blonde On Blonde over it any time of the day. Desire too.
The Cult's Dreamtime is actually their best. Love and Sonic Temple are close, but Electric is not. IMO their most overrated release.
Black Sabbath's Master of Reality is muuuuch better than Paranoid. Also the debut and possibly Heaven & Hell. But that's maybe because I've overplayed some of their most popular tracks, many of which are from Paranoid.
Death Grips, I can't see The Money Store as their best release. It could be Exmilitary or No Love Deep Web, but not The Money Store.
Helplessness Blues is easily better than the debut Fleet Foxes.
This became a "which band's best album is overrated compared to others" post midway, but yeah.
Edit:
Also yeah, The Unforgettable Fire is U2's best and The Smiths debut is at least as good as The Queen Is Dead _________________ Overall chart

Agreed with this. In fact, I'd also take Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, Times They Are A-Changing, and especially Bringing it All Back Home over Highway 61. I really don't like it much.
Also agreed that Geogaddi is better than Music Has the Right to Children.
My favorite Smiths album is Strangeways Here We Come. Johnny Marr agrees with me!
It's a Wonderful Life seems to be the consensus best Sparklehorse album but it's the only one of his four albums I don't like much.
For a long time I didn't care for Low's I Could Live in Hope, and I'm still lukewarm on it. My favorite Low album is Trust.
And I'm not sure Pavement have a commonly accepted best album, but I think Slanted and Enchanted is much better than Crooked Rain. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.

Elephant by the White Stripes has some great songs (Ball and Biscuit, Black Math, Girl You Have No Faith In Medicine... please I never want to hear Seven Nation Army again) but in my opinion it is also their least consistent album. I pretty much prefer any of their other albums over it
Queen II beats Bohemian Rhapsody.
Maybe this doesn't count but I much prefer John Frusciante's solo albums over Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I could name a lot. Many of my personal favorite artists have an album which I like more than their "best" one.
Edit:
Queen II beats A Night at The Opera I meant

This is going to be much more of a common post, but my favorite Neil Young album is Harvest. There's so much heart and feeling in each song, and it doesn't feel monotonous like After the Gold Rush which is still a very fine album. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

Asia - I much prefer 2012's XXX over the more lauded debut
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way way over Kind of Blue
Foghat - I'll take either Energized or Stone Blue over Fool for the City
Grand Funk Railroad - I'm not really sure what is considered their best, but I know it's not Good Singin', Good Playin', which is my favorite.
Led Zeppelin - III over IV
