Powerplant. A bit rawer and more lofi than most synth-punk. Wasn't too impressed, although it generally had a nice sound. Dungen was neat, but it all sounded a bit too uniform to me, apart from the Exit Castle interlude which caught me off guard for brief 44 seconds. Maybe I'll pick apart the highlights on the second listen.
Maria Sommerville. Serious Grouper vibes on this one. Liked it a lot, but it's a bit too short. If it had a song or two more, it would've been fantastic. But it may land on my 2019 chart nonetheless, great sounds all around!
Probably gonna vote for Sommerville. But I'd definitely wanna see Powerplant live ๐ _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
Really enjoyed the Powerplant record. Only the second synth punk album I've heard (Suicide) and it scratched an itch I didn't know was there. Good energy and solid songcraft.
The Maria Somerville album was certainly pretty, but not much of the washed out sound actually stuck. So while I appreciated it, Powerplant gets my vote. _________________ Join us in the canon game :) / Add me on RYM
