Just curious.. Is it because she's too famous? She's not rated very highly. Her new one is really good and her album Here IMO is fantastic!
Is it because she's RnB/pop?

I wasn't even aware of this. She's about as good as the next 2000's female solo artist. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

If I could interject, I don't think it's because she's R&B/Pop. As BEA gets new users genres like Pop/R&B do tend to get a critical reappraisal. Hell each year recently have been getting pop/r&b albums in the top 10, 20 , 50, 100 per year. Maybe she hasn't made a defying/classic record. Maybe because there were some tracks like No One and Girl on Fine that I find boring/bad. Do love her 2001 album as want to try her recent album. But I would say this could lead to an interesting discussion.

I've honestly only heard her newer stuff. Here is great, heck that same year Beyonce's Lemonade is very highly rated and I agree that it is really good but Keys Here album was better IMO and rated very low. I need to check out her earlier work because it is rated higher than anything recently. Girl on Fire was definitely overplayed but still pretty decent.

Back in the earlier days of BEA, a critical mass of users hated pop. Mainstream pop/r&b albums that came out at that time and in the several years preceding got downrated, sometimes en masse. Now the community is much less anti-pop, but the ratings of those albums remain low because simply not enough people are listening to them and rating them for the average to go up significantly.
Justin Bieber has an album rated 17/100, and you know most of those 164 people didn't listen to the whole thing... this issue could be one good reason to retire ratings from inactive users.
Anyone who was actually here during that time period in site history, feel free to correct me if I'm off-base. _________________ Join us in the canon game / Add me on RYM

Most of Alicia's albums have a 70+ rating, and only one of those albums has less than 10 votes. Here other albums are in the 60's. Comparing that to Bieber, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Britney Spears, I'd say those are great ratings.
I agree that a lot of 90's pop albums need re-evaluations. Meet the metalhead who gave Spice an 8.5. _________________ Do it yourself and let me play my music: https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=61802

Thank you for your response! That's what I was looking for. This site has probably gone through many changes and differences over the years. I feel like there's some people that rate stuff low just to be a jerk cuz they don't like a certain artist. Music is one of the most special things in human history, it's unique and beautiful and entertaining. Good or "bad", if it moves you and inspires you then that is good enough reason to just love music even more. It's here to help us get through life. Life is short, enjoy whatever tunes you desire.

I love her voice. I think she's talented as hell.
I also think she makes average albums. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold
