Steven Wilson really creates some absolute monster riffs on this one. The addition of Gavin Harrison on drums on this album also elevated the band quite a bit as well. Their first drummer Chris Maitland was no slouch either, but Gavin Harrison unreal.

Not for me, unfortunately. Just a whole style that I can't stand, no matter how well it's apparently done. A real shame.

I don't mean anything bad by it, but this was a lot... softer than I remembered. I still liked Trains and some other parts of it.

Confused I know the feeling.

This is not one of my favourite PT albums, but I get why people think it's top 2 along with Fear of the Blank Planet. Blackest Eyes is killer, Trains is great, Gravity Eyelids and The Sound of Muzak are both solid, Prodigal is beautiful, Heartattack in a Layby and Collapse The Light Into Earth are possibly the best ballads they've written. But there's some meh songs, and it never captured me like Lightbulb Sun, FOTBP, The Raven, Hand. Cannot. Erase or even Deadwing and Stupid Dream.

Not a big PT fan, but for me, this is their best.

I prefer Deadwing or Fear of a Blank Planet but I agree that this album has some killer tracks such as the first two, Prodigal or the closer. It is also important because of what some mentioned of Harrison taking the drums and the general sound shifting towards progressive metal, while still having many spacey moments.
