Deeply flawed. But it’s completely loveable.

Any Springsteen album from this era is worth an examination. Actually found a copy of this on vinyl a couple of months ago, just waiting for the right time to listen to it. Stolen Car is the song that I keep coming back to on this album.

The title track alone is worth having both discs for. There are a lot of really great tracks here that don't get the attention they deserve..."Stolen Car", "Independence Day", "Ramrod", "Point Blank". It's not aged as well as the previous two (and has always gotten flack for "Hungry Heart")...but it's still far more great than flawed.

Agreed with many others here. I love Springsteen, and while this isn't my favorite, that's only because it's smack in the middle of some masterpieces.

The 73-85 era was incredible for Springsteen, and this album is no exception. I do think that unlike the rest of the albums in this time period, this one has some filler. It's also the only double LP though, and at its best, its at Springsteen's best.

A mixed bag for me
I love the Boss and The River is my favourite song of his along with My Hometown from Born in the USA.

But for me this would definitely be better as a single album even though there are a lot of great tracks on here.

Still I own it on CD and on vinyl so I must like it.
